While IRS Phishing schemes are not new, there seems to be a renewed interest in them the past couple of days. I had eight (8) of them in my quarantine from yesterday alone, and several people have reported emails with subjects like:
- Rejected Federal Tax Transaction
- Federal Tax Payment Returned
- Federal Tax Transfer Returned
- Your Federal Tax Payment
- Rejected Federal Tax transfer
If you receive one of these messages, please DO NOT OPEN the message, and especially do not click on any of the links. I would also highly recommend that you contact your Information Technology Team to make sure you have not had any spyware added to your system.
The IRS encourages individuals to report IRS phishing/fraud to phishing@irs.gov so that they can handle these incidents and limit the number of possible victims.
